29/03/2020 History shows that the US stock market has always recovered from major drops and reached new highs - that’s the nature of the market. However, it may take some time. The major drops in the last fifty years (S&P 500) were: Sep-74, dropped 46%, took 70 months to recover, i.e., reach new record high. Jul-82, dropped 24%, 5 months to recover. Nov-87, 30% drop, 20 months to recover. Sep-02, 46% drop, 56 months. Feb-09, 53% drop, 49 months. We are currently at 27% drop from the high. But, how low will the market go, and when will we reach the low point? This could still be months away. We could be looking at many months (years) to recover. Also note that the 3 biggest drops were followed by 10 year gains that were well below average. Jean Jacques Chenier
